I’ve made this character recently to test a few things, I used xsi for modeling and building the scene, mudbox2009 for the details, and the texturing was done in photoshop and mudbox2009.
Everything was rendered with 3Delight 2.something, can’t remember which release. I tried to avoid raytracing as much as possible, of course stuff like the cornea needed some refraction, but that’s it. There’s no retouching on this, only color correction, and a bit of a noise was added in the end.

For me this project was more about shading with primitive tools, and not that much about perfect modeling or an interesting theme.
